March 2025 Newsletter

As the Major Season starts in professional golf, it’s only proper to open up this month’s newsletter in the same manner Jim Nantz opens up the broadcast for the Masters Tournament at Augusta National – “Hello Friends”.

The Major season kicked off with the unofficial 5th Major; the Players Championship, held at TPC Sawgrass in Florida. Rory McIlroy won in dramatic fashion as he, and lesser-known journeyman, JJ Spaun went into a 3-hole playoff on Monday. This victory marks Rory’s best start to a PGA Tour season and his seconds victory in just a few months.

The Masters Tournament is coming up in a few weeks and is the first official Major. This should be a great one as Rory looks to finally win at Augusta National and complete the Career Grand Slam (winning all 4 professional Majors). His recent form coming into the event must make him the favorite. However, he has historically had issues with his game showing up at Augusta.

There will also be plenty of other big names that will look to make a run. Ludvig Aberg, Collin Morikawa and Hideki Matsuyama are some other top players who have been showing solid form and will be looking to challenge Rory here. Scottie Scheffler has also been showing some better form as he kicks off rust from his hiatus, post-hand injury. Justin Thomas and Viktor Hovland have also found some recent form after some bad slumps over the past year or so.

I am looking forward to tuning in and seeing how it all plays out! I hope you do as well.

For those of you still reading…on to the markets!

As we progress through the year 2025, you may have noticed considerable ups and downs in the financial markets. Such volatility can naturally cause some concern, but it’s vital to understand the contributing factors and how they fit within the larger historical context of investing. Let's explore this landscape together and reaffirm your confidence in your long-term financial strategy.

1. The Nature of Current Volatility

Market volatility in 2025 has been marked by significant swings, reflecting the complex interplay of diverse economic and geopolitical factors. Notably, we've seen recent tariff adjustments in various global regions leading to shifts in trade dynamics. These developments often create uncertainty in markets as investors evaluate potential impacts on corporate profits and international growth.

Additionally, changes in national economic policies, including redesigns of tax structures in major economies, have introduced further layers of unpredictability. Policies affecting corporate taxes and regulations can have immediate effects on market sentiment as they directly influence corporate earnings forecasts and investment flows.

On the geopolitical front, global tensions around trade agreements, regulatory realignments, and regional instabilities add yet another layer of complexity. As these situations evolve, markets may experience heightened sensitivity to news and announcements, feeding further into the volatility.

2. Volatility as a Normal Occurrence

It’s essential to remember that volatility is not uncommon, particularly following the substantial market gains of 2023 and 2024. Historical data shows us that periods of intensified volatility often come on the heels of sustained run-ups in equity valuations. Such corrections are a natural mechanism of markets finding equilibrium and can often present opportunities for strategic rebalancing and investment at lower valuations.

While short-term fluctuations can undoubtedly be unnerving, they are also key features of financial markets. They reflect the dynamic nature of economies and should be viewed within the context of your long-term investment horizons.

3. Reaffirming Your Long-term Strategy

Our primary focus is to ensure your portfolio remains aligned with your personal goals and risk tolerance. It’s in these times of uncertainty that sticking to a disciplined investment approach becomes crucial. Remember that diversification, periodic rebalancing, and a clear understanding of your investment objectives help mitigate risk and position you for future growth despite market volatility.
